Membership Categorisation System

The Instil membership categories are defined under Rule 8 of the Instil Constitution, and includes the membership grades of:
 
  • Fellow
  • Associate Fellow
  • Member
  • Member Emerging Leader
  • Associate, and
  • Retired


An explanation for the rules determining eligibility for each category is shown below:
 
Fellow
(FAMI)
· Has attained qualifications at Diploma level or higher in governance or a business
  discipline relevant to the financial services industry; and

· Has had five years’ experience as a Director, including three years as a Chair, of a
  public company, government business enterprise, mutual, co-operative or
  not-for-profit entity; or
 
· Has had five years’ experience as a senior Executive, including three years as a Chief
  Executive Officer or equivalent, of a public company, government business
  enterprise, mutual, co-operative or not-for-profit entity.
Associate
Fellow

(AFAMI)
· Has attained qualifications at Diploma level or higher in governance or a business
  discipline relevant to the financial services industry; and

· Has had five years’ experience as a Director of a public company, government
  business enterprise, mutual, co-operative or not-for-profit entity; or

· Has had five years’ experience as a senior Executive of a public company,
  government business enterprise, mutual, co-operative or not-for-profit entity.
Member
(MAMI)
· Is a Director of a public company, government business enterprise, mutual,
  co-operative or not-for-profit entity; or

· Is a Director of an industry association or commercial organisation that provides
  services to a mutual or co-operative; or

· Is a Manager or employee Member of a public company, government business enterprise,
  mutual, co-operative or not-for-profit entity; or

· Is a Manager or employee Member of an industry association or commercial organisation
  that provides services to a mutual or co-operative
Member
(Emerging Leader)
* (MAMIe)
· Is in a Employee or Managerial position within a mutual or a co-operative or in an industry
  association or commercial organisation serving mutuals and/or co-operatives; and

· Aspires to or is moving towards a managerial or technical specialist role within a
  mutual or co-operative; and

· Has not been in the Member (Emerging Leader) category for more than three years.
Associate
(AAMI)
· An Alternate or Associate Director of a mutual or a co-operative; or

· A Manager or Employee member of a mutual or co-operative that is not eligible or does
  not wish to have full membership; or

· A Director, Manager or Employee Member of an industry association or commercial
  organisation that provides services to a mutual or co-operative and who is not eligible or
  does not wish to have full membership; or

· A member of a mutual or co-operative who is intending to nominate for a position as a
  director of a mutual or co-operative and so wishes to gain access to the Institute’s
  training, education and professional development program.
Retired
(N/A)
· A past member of the Institute who has retired from the sector but wishes to
  maintain an interest in the sector.

* Member (Emerging Leaders) must be under 30 years of age and will have a three year limit on their eligibility to remain in this category. At the expiry of the three years or upon reaching the age of 30 they will be automatically upgraded to full Membership.
